Dear Friend,
On November 21, 2008, we lost a great friend and community hero, Dylan Hopkins. Dylan lost his life in a tragic airplane crash in the Uinta Mountains of Utah.
Dylan was an important part of many communities that included his family, friends, the Fire Service of Utah, falconry, river runners, Catholic, J.E. Cosgriff, Judge Memorial, and Olympus High School, to name just a few.
Dylan was a successful and dedicated Utah firefighter and paramedic. At the young age of 25, he became a member of the elite Utah Task Force 1 Search and Rescue Team. As a member of this task force, Dylan and his fellow firefighters ventured into the most dangerous situations to search for and rescue victims. Dylan lived for his work and dedicated his life to helping others. His death has left an enormous hole in all of the lives he touched.  As his friends, we want to honor this remarkable life, keep his memory alive, and inspire other young people to work hard to make their dreams come true.

As many of you know, Dylan was a certified falconer. Because of his love of birds, we felt the Tracy Aviary would be the perfect location for a memorial. With the blessing and financial support of Dylan’s family and in partnership with Great West Institute, a nonprofit organization committed to expanding grassroots efforts to preserve and enhance the communities of the American West, we have procured a site at Tracy Aviary, and commissioned an artist to create a sculpture in Dylan’s memory.

We invite you to be a part of this project by making a tax-deductible donation, payable to the Great West Institute: Dylan Hopkins Fund, c/o CarePoint Group Purchasing, P.O. Box 171074, Salt Lake City, Utah 84117.

Thank you, in advance, for your generosity and for your caring support of the Hopkins family to date.   We will keep you informed of our progress.
